Jason is a PhD student in the Cellular and Molecular Biology program at Boston University. Growing up in North Carolina, Jason graduated from UNC Charlotte with a B.S. in Biology. During his time at UNC Charlotte, he was trained in molecular and cellular techniques while conducting research in the Reitzel lab, (https://sites.google.com/site/thereitzellab/home) on the expression of transcription factors in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis. Jason is now interested in how microbes employ biological and physical strategies to address self-organization. More specifically, what cell-to-cell or cell-to-environment information is necessary for successful formation of microbial communities. Finding the curious nature of science to be fascinating he discovers inspiration in the creative attempts, both philosophical and artistic, to interpret the nature of life itself.
