Joe is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Biology and Physics at Boston University and a member of the Boston University Biological Design Center.
As a graduate student in Meni Wanunu’s lab, he created nanostructures for isolating and analyzing single biomolecules from bulk solutions. From there he moved further into biology, investigating the role of electrical signaling in bacterial biofilms with Gürol Süel.
He is generally interested in how microbes are so successful in so many different environments, and how group behaviors contribute to this success.
Outside of teaching and research, he enjoys music, sports, and walking through areas with notable residential architecture (feel free to ask for his suggestions in Boston or San Diego).
