Michael is a PhD student in the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry Program at Boston University and a trainee in the SB2 Program in Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. He graduated from Elms College with a BA in Biology in 2017. During his time at Elms, his research focused on studying population dynamics of the equine microbiome. Before beginning at Boston University, he worked at Smith College on a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded project that aimed to create molecular tools that enabled cost effective and broad surveillance strategies for diseases such as malaria and lymphatic filariasis. Michael is currently interested in the how the spatial organization of species, phenotypes, and proteins create emergent properties within biofilms.
